Yesterday I made it to California! First time visiting the state unless you count my layover in San Fran airport on my honeymoon. Anyway, before I head to Monterey where the action is, I made a pit stop in Oakland to catch up with some old friends from high school.
My friend is the only car-guy friend I have, and we have very similar tastes. He owns a beautiful white '72 VW Karman Ghia which he's rebuilt the brakes and even auto crossed before.
We went for a ride to a local high-end dealership to browse their inventory to pre-game for Pebble Beach week. Fantasy Junction is located in Emeryville CA and the staff was perfectly ok with us just walking around and taking some pictures.
This is a 330 replica built by Norwood, who are the 330 replica people. Beautiful, yet so simple.
This was a classic McLaren M12 CamAm car that was unfortunately red instead of papaya orange. Still wouldn't say no to a drive though... This car finished second in the 1970 CanAm championship.
Yours today for only $8.75 mil.
This 1929 Bugatti Type 40 roadster was a numbers-matching thirty-year old restoration. $585,000
This Alfa TZ-1 was gorgeous. This is one of two TZ's they had in stock. $1.3 mil each
Everyone's favorite front wheel drive: the Lancia Fulvia. This car had a brand new interior installed, it looked great.
Here's the other TZ-1. My friend and I tried to get a package deal, but we couldn't reach an agreement. Oh well...
This beautiful Testarossa only had 3,200 miles on the odometer. A crime, if you ask me.
This AC Bristol was also a number matching car. For sale for $325,000
One of the stars of the showroom was this blue Aston Martin DB5 Superlaggera. This wasn't listed on their pricelist, so we figured "if you have to ask".
This was a 1961 Cooper formerly driven by Bruce McLaren. It had a pile of documentation and actually came with some spare parts.
Possibly my favorite, this 1958 Lister Jaguar was completely restored, show ready, and they claim it can be street legal. I've never seen one in person before. Only $1.75 million.
Make sure you check the tag to follow me through my first trip through Car Week in Monterey, CA.
